Happy Memorial Day, folks. Personally, my favorite (Philly) holiday happens next weekend…West Philly Porchfest @westphillyporchfest ! So in that spirit, this week’s Jawn Jams is highlighting a few groups and artists to check out next Saturday, May 31. Never been to Porchfest you say? Get ready to wander the neighborhoods surrounding Clark Park starting at noon, have your favorite bevvie(s) in your bag, load up on sunscreen, and get ready to make new friends and find new local artists to love.
12pm Merritt (“Pop and Indie Pop covers with some originals”) at 4500 Springfield Ave 1pm @polyamorousbookclubtheband (“rizzy queer covers from 90s 00s and today”) plays 1220 St Markoe St 2pm @maxdavey_ (“[her] unique indie folk songwriting creates an honest experience that resonates with listeners from all walks of life”) takes the porch at 329 S 43rd St 3pm Gryph (“Blending techno, house, and bass. Focused on deep cuts and undiscovered gems, Gryph aims to connect audiences with music they've never heard, but instantly love.”) playing 4715 Springfield Ave 4pm @some_ghosts (“music flows between garage rock indie; all the way to frenetic 2000s inspired post-rock”) at 4919 Cedar Ave 5pm @guachinangos (“Big-band style, folk fusion of son jarocho, cumbia, champeta in another dimension, lots of dancing”) at 4821 Baltimore Ave These are just six of the 100+ amazing artists and groups playing this year. Walk around, listen to a tune, and enjoy a gorgeous, musical day in West Philly. #westphilly #porchfest #jawn #jams
