If you’re like me, you’re getting distracted by the amount of fantastic shows that are already going on sale for summer (even the fall!) But let’s not forget the great lineups we still have to look forward to this winter. Here are a few selection for this week:

Singer/songwriter @wellesmusic plays World Cafe Live Thursday Feb. 20. Grab a drink upstairs before arriving, or head down the street to @walnutstcafe for their Golden Hour before the show.

Indie pop band @fosterthepeople (who were a staple in my early 20s playlists) come through Friday Feb. 21 at @fillmorephilly Note: this show is sold out, but keep an eye on resale sites day of—I’ve had some luck scoring a last minute deal that way lately. If you do end up going to the show, head to @barcade after for a few games.

If shoegaze/dream pop is more your vibe, check out Philly-local band @cigarettesforbreakfastband Saturday Feb. 22 at @ortliebsphilly I haven’t had the chance to see them before, but I have a feeling it will be a hazy good time. Head down the street before the show for beers and eats at @standardtap

The @philadelphiaeagles won the Super Bowl and most Philadelphians are focused on one thing: when’s the parade? But there are some great shows lined up this week, and I strongly encourage y’all to support the arts as much as sports. Plus, Valentine’s Day is Friday, and concert tickets for your sweetie are always a good idea.

Friday, Feb. 14 @raylandishere plays @citywineryphil. I’ve seen Rayland countless times, and he always play a great show. Grab a bite and drink during the show at the venue, or grab dinner before the show a few blocks north at @chubbycattleshabuphilly.

If you’re still in need of plans for V Day, head up to the @philamuseum. Enjoy their Friday night lounge from 5p - 8:30pm and listen to hip hop and soul by @seraiahnicole. The event includes discounted museum admission ($15) and parking ($10), as well as the option to purchase food and wine from onsite vendors. Single? Partnered? Friend group? All are welcome.

For R&B fans, @ericbellinger performs at Brooklyn Bowl Saturday Feb. 15. Start your night up the block at @barcade for drinks and games or @fettesauphilly for bbq and cocktails.

So who are you seeing this week?

Well, it’s finally February. Let’s celebrate the new month with a solid run of shows this week.

Two great shows to pick from this Thursday, February 6. For the bluegrass fans, @greenskybluegrass plays @thefillmore If you haven’t had the chance to see them before, GO. They put on a hell of a jam and you’ll leave with a solid feeling of community. Grab a drink before the show at @philadelphiadistilling Indie dance pop more your speed? If so, grab tickets to @rubblebucket at @undrgroundarts. “Came Out of a Lady” is a great track to start with (if you aren’t familiar with their music) and be SURE to check out the accompanying music video. Grab a slice at @woodstreetpizza before the show.

Looking for a non-weeknight jam? @mattpondpa (a band with Philly origins) plays @johnnybrendas Saturday night, Feb. 8. While I’ve never had a chance to see this band live, their album Several Arrows Later is a favorite. Get to JBs early for a bite at the bar or head up the street to @tworobbersfishtown for a smash burger and local seltzer.

Let’s say bye to January with some fantastic Philly area shows this week.

@mannequinpussy plays @queenwilmington Thursday Jan. 30. While yea, it is a different state, it’s really not too far! Just think of it as the far southeast. And trust me, MP puts on a hell of a show. Drive down early and grab dinner before the show at @farmerandthecow.

If psychedelic funk is more your vibe, @pigeonsplaying takes the stage at @bbowlphilly Friday Jan. 31 and Saturday Feb. 1. Grab a cocktail a couple blocks north at @rd_philly beforehand. Sounds like a great start to the weekend, to me.

And rounding out the week, @disasterartistband , @venus_twins, and @friend.phl play @philamoca Saturday Feb. 1. Bring your earplugs and get ready for a good time. Oh, and the space is BYO so bring your preferred beverage for the night.

@matkerekes, @equipment_ohio, and @bikeroutesnj play the @ukie.club Wednesday Jan. 22. Check out @bardotcafebar, just a couple blocks away, before the show for a beer and snack.

Enjoy a two night run Friday Jan. 24 and Saturday Jan. 25 with @phillyglove at @citywineryphil. You can grab food and drinks before and during the show at the venue. But if you’d prefer a different locale, warm up with a fantastic bowl of ramen at @terakawaphilly just a couple blocks north.

@uniontransfer welcomes @soccermommyband on Saturday Jan. 25. Shoot an oyster (or a few) and enjoy a cocktail at @poisonheartbar across the street before heading into the show.

Another week, another Jawn Jams. Here’s who’s coming through this week.

@sungazerrrr (electrojazz + EDM) comes through Wednesday Jan. 15 at World Cafe Live. Be sure to check out @walnutstcafe for their Golden Hour happy hour first.

@fat_mezz (blues, rock, soul), hailing from South Jersey, comes to the Philly area Thursday Jan. 16 at @ardmoremusichall. New spot @izzys_ardmore is just a few doors down—grab the XO Scallop hand roll and Tall, Dark and Stormy cocktail.

Part band part performance art group, @pot_cell performs Friday Jan. 17 at Cement Factory (if you know this location, please send it to me! It’s a new to me venue) I saw this band a couple months ago at The Fire and was immediately hooked. Great music, great performance art. Go check them out.

The combo of a first full week back at work plus a Monday snow storm has me looking forward to shows later this week. You, too? Here’s what’s coming around this week in Jawn Jams:

On Thursday, Jan. 9 Lancaster’s own folk punk band @apesofthestate will be playing @brokengobletbrewing in Bensalem. Get there early and grab a beer and food—they’ve got a great menu.

@silverstein will be at @fillmorephilly on Friday, Jan. 10 with their “25 Years of Noise” tour. Grab a drink before the show across the street at @otherhalfphilly.

And rounding out the week, local country artist @lillymossofficial will be taking the stage at @118northwayne in Wayne. Swing by @teresas_wayne for a bite and drink before heading down the street for the show.

What shows are you looking forward to this week?

Last NYE, instead of chilling at home or bar hopping, I opted for a show at @ardmoremusichall and saw @lowcutconnie. Being surrounded by music, counting down together, and cheers’ing while signing Auld Lang Syne was a memory I won’t forget. So, this week’s Jawn Jams is a special edition, highlighting a few jams to check out on NYE if that feels right. No jawns this week, but plenty more to come in 2025!

@ardmoremusichall is doing another NYE show this year, featuring (a personal fav) punk band @themenzingers (also playing Dec. 30). If you’ve never seen them live, you’re in for a hell of a show.

@ortliebsphilly is hosting a NYE Extravaganza from 8p-2a featuring @ridofmeband, @mywifesanangel and @sunbursterpa, with DJ sets by @bornlosersrecords throughout.

Electronic jamband @lotusinstagram will be vibing at @uniontransfer for those looking for a psychedelic escape.

Philly’s own @snacktime will be ringing in the New Year at @bbowlphilly.

And celebrate Zoo Year’s Eve with @toomanyzooz at @worldcafelive.

No matter what you’re doing, stay safe and party responsibly. Cheers to more jams and jawns in the New Year!

‘Tis the week before Christmas and Hanukkah and we’ve got some final musical treats of the year on the lineup.

Electronica singer/songwriter @chee.k.y plays Wednesday Dec. 18 at @johnnybrendas. The venue itself has a great bar and food menu, but if you’re in the mood for a pre-show cocktail, @nextofkinphl is a must.

If punk is more your thing, @deathtotheangies, @sloptart.xoxo, @happytimenj, and @mulesofthecellar play @kungfunecktie_bar Thursday Dec. 19. If you can grab a res at @pizzeriabeddiaphilly before the show you’ll be in for a delicious treat, or @bottlebareast for a chiller vibe.

And wrapping up the week, @mtjoyband frontman @mattquinnmj will be at @uniontransfer Friday Dec. 20. Grab a beer before the show at @lovecitybrewing or head to the venue at doors open to grab something at their back bar.

Since shows tend to slow down the week of Christmas, we’ll be taking next week off. But don’t worry, Jawn Jams returns the following week to highlight the best NYE shows in the area.
